Spiritual Spiral

This painting delves into the motif of the spiral as a spiritual and psychological form—an image of descent, return, and transformation. Drawing again on Itten’s seasonal colour theory, the palette remains rooted in the autumnal: dense crimsons, charred blues, and molten golds fold into one another, creating a sense of inward motion and ritual intensity. The spiralling forms suggest forces that are felt rather than seen, echoing Mark Fisher’s weird in their suggestion of an intelligence embedded in the landscape, and the eerie in their refusal to fully reveal themselves. The work evokes a liminal space where matter, memory, and spirituality collapse into one another, inviting the viewer to linger within a slow, unsettling process of becoming.
