Autumn Storm

Autumn Storm explores the autumnal register of Itten’s colour theory, where earth tones, bruised purples, and smouldering ochres evoke decay, transition, and inner turbulence. The landscape feels suspended between presence and absence: forms emerge and dissolve, suggesting a spiritual terrain shaped as much by emotion as by nature. Drawing on Mark Fisher’s concept of the weird and the eerie, the painting unsettles through what feels out of place and what is conspicuously missing—an atmosphere charged with foreboding, ritual, and quiet unease. The storm becomes both a natural event and a metaphysical one, marking a threshold between material landscape and unseen forces.
